Born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa (Northwest of Mexico), María Teresa García Plata (Tere) has a Master’s in Marketing from Tecnológico de Monterrey and graduated with Honors. She is also studying for a Master’s in Finance at Universidad TecMilenio.

Within her professional career, Tere has 7 years of experience in the third sector, as Director of the Mazatlán Food Bank, and later served as National Director of Procurement in the National Offices of the BAMX Network. Tere is currently General Director responsible for the implementation of the national zero hunger strategy through the strengthening and growth of the most effective food rescue model, the Food Banks of Mexico.

Her career as an international lecturer on the topics of fighting food losses and waste and the fight against food insecurity has led her to represent the Mexican Food Banks in Colombia, the United States, and England.

In the corporate world, Tere has more than 6 years of experience in the Marketing area of Grupo Lala, a leading dairy company in Mexico, designing and implementing marketing strategies and tactics with an impact on sales and market shares within the region. Tere also spent 8 years as a teacher at high school and professional levels, and as an academic tutor for executives at several prestigious universities in the country.

On a personal level, Tere is a family oriented person with a wide taste for reading, traveling and volunteering for animal rights related causes.
