FBLI 2023 FOOD BANK TOURS

Food Bank Tours

As part of the FBLI experience, GFN and BAMX are giving FBLI attendees the opportunity to visit one or two different food banks within the BAMX network. The food banks you can visit are:

Alimento Para Todos (APT): APT is a city food bank located in Mexico City. Established nearly 30 years ago, APT rescues 14,000 tons of food annually and serves over 116,000 vulnerable people.

Banco de Alimentos Puebla: This food bank in a large, new facility is located approximately 2 hours outside of Mexico City. Due to the location, this tour will focus on working with the agricultural sector to rescue surplus food from farms.

GFN will arrange these tours and provide transport between the Sheraton hotel and the food banks.

Guided Tour of Alimento Para Todos Food Bank

On Sunday or Thursday, registered attendees of FBLI will have the opportunity to visit the warehouse of Alimento Para Todos (APT). APT is the BAMX food bank in Mexico City and has been operating for nearly 30 years. You must be a registered attendee of FBLI in order to attend. There are three time options available.

The tours will start and end at the Sheraton hotel, and transportation will be provided. Please meet in the hotel lobby 10 minutes before your selected time slot where a GFN staff member will guide participants to their bus. The attendees will be on-site at the food bank for 1 hour and 30 minutes before returning to the Sheraton hotel. Due to potential traffic, please note that any expected return times are purely an estimate and should not be relied upon for planning.

Guided Tour of Puebla Food Bank

On Thursday, registered attendees of FBLI will have the opportunity to visit the warehouse of BAMX Puebla and participate in a volunteer activity at one of their donor farms. This will be a full-day activity focused on the agricultural recovery programs at BAMX Puebla and will involve a bus journey from Mexico City to Puebla and back (approximately 7 hours round trip).

PLEASE NOTE: This tour will be a long day. There will be a lot of time on the bus traveling out to the food bank and the farm, and then back to Mexico City. The tour will focus entirely on the agricultural recovery program that the food bank operates. Therefore, we recommended that you do not book travel back home until Friday due to the travel distances and traffic.

For the volunteer activity, it is highly recommended to wear clothes and shoes that you are comfortable getting very dirty.

The tours will start and end at the Sheraton hotel, and transportation will be provided. Please meet in the lobby 10 minutes before your selected time slot where a GFN staff member will guide participants to their correct bus. The attendees will be on-site at the food bank and volunteer activity for several hours before returning to the conference hotel. Due to potential traffic, please note that any expected return times are purely an estimate and should not be relied upon for planning.
