Government through its laws, policies, and funding decisions plays an essential role in helping address hunger and poverty on a broad scale, but also has a key role in enabling food donations and the work of food banking organizations. GFN and the Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic, with support from the Walmart Foundation, recently released the Global Food Donation Policy Atlas, a first-of-its-kind interactive resource to analyze and compare food donation policies across countries, and inspire long-term policy solutions to food waste, hunger, and climate change.

This session will:

  • Explore the crucial role law and policy play in food donation decisions and in the operations of food banks,
  • Describe how food banks and governments can use the Atlas in their own research and planning, and
  • Discuss research on how local and national government responses have impacted food banking during COVID-19

Following brief presentations by the featured speakers, there will be ample time for questions and answers from the audience.

This session will be available in English and Spanish.

This session will be on the record and a video recording will be available for viewing following the event.
